Building my own money-making websitesA couple of years ago I looked into ways of building money-making websites. I wanted to make a site for myself that I could work on in odd moments, that would be fun to do, and that would bring in a useful bit of extra income. I found SiteBuildIt!, a Canadian system of creating websites that's very simple. Take a look at this video which tells you how it works. For not very much money, you get all the tools you need to build a site, plus all the support, technical stuff and information it takes to get traffic to that site, and generate income. SiteBuildIt! was a great find. I hunted around for a topic to build a site about, and decided to go for healthy eating as a subject. It's something that interests me, I know a bit about it and have some ideas to share. And I reckoned it could be a learning exercise, and maybe the first of a whole series of money-making websites. The result was www.healthy-eating-made-easy.com Through slowly building this site, I've learned masses about search engine optimisation, how websites work, and how to write content that attracts visitors to the site. Most days, more than 3000 people visit my site - I think that's a fantastic result. The site makes money through Google AdSense, the little ads you can see on the site (and on many other sites). Google deliver targetted ads to my pages, and when a visitor clicks on one of those ads, I earn a small fee (but please don't click on them if you're looking at the site, as it's totally against Google's rules to solicit clicks). These ads are very popular, especially in the USA where a lot of my traffic comes from, and I earn money every day, even when I'm not actively working on the site. I have the flexibility to work on the site as and when I want to - and it keeps on earning money, whether I'm working on it or not. Work at home mums After I'd been working on my site for a year or so, Sitesell decided to produce some material for work at home mums, who really appreciate the flexibility the system can give them, plus its money-making potential. I got involved in writing a guide for this market, along with three other site-builders in the USA. The result was this free, downloadable e-book.
