I often thought about writing this book during the years that my children were pre-schoolers, but I never had the time, or the energy.
Once I had a few hours a day for concentrated work, I approached Relate, the relationship counselling experts, with the idea, and so BabyShock! came into being. Many parents have told me how useful they've found it, which is very rewarding.
Here's the blurb from the back cover:
This book was written for any couple who has forgotten what it's like to be a couple because their children have taken over their lives and conversation. Baby Shock! recognises that the experiences of pregnancy, childbirth and caring for children, while enormously pleasurable, can also place huge strains on the parents' relationship.
Baby Shock! draws on the expertise of Relate counsellors and explains how your relationhsip is affected from the first decision to try for a baby, through pregnancy, birth and babyhood,up to the stage of caring for toddlers and young children.
This practical guide show how you can:
create time for yourselves
improve your sex life
cope with rows and disagreements
agree on how to bring up the children
share domestic responsibilities
manage the demands of work and family
Baby Shock! uses case histories, checklists and fun questionnaires to help you keep your relationship thriving, and get the best out of family life together.
